TLOM Critique

TLOM BookTo date we have received feedback across the board on The Laws of Managing. They have largely found that the content presented, a comprehensive framework for managing that regenerates enterprises comes across well. Some regarding this as we do, the first overall comprehensive explanation of what managing ought to be. This feedback lets me know that we did what we intended in introducing a distinctive, unique, and comprehensive way of managing that regenerates enterprises. A couple examples:

    • “What I love about this book is that it is very concise, yet the authors successfully deliver a lifetime worth of wisdom in only 67 pages.”
    • “This book would be a great read for a team of managers/leaders to read and discuss its application to their organization and business.”
    • “This book contains a common-sense and straight-forward approach to management that makes you think, "Why didn't I think of that?" Korn and Pine share wisdom gleaned from careful research and much obvious thought condensed down into seven manageable laws that can be adapted into nearly any business model.”
    • For the most part, the readers loved our terminology describing the laws, describing it as a bit unconventional but very meaningful.

Following those affirming messages comes a host of suggestions for improvement. Lots of suggestions. Great! After all, we didn’t call the current edition the “Initial Edition” for nothing. Suggestions include:

    • “The graphics are awful.” No doubt they can be improved. We are open to suggestions and will no doubt continue to improve upon them.
    • “There is no story to bring be along.” Guilty as charged. I specifically stayed away from both anecdotes and a humanizing thread of a story in order to stick to getting out the essential message of regenerative managing.
    • We found different people reacted differently to terminology like laws, enterprise, and managing. Their points serve to put us on notice to assume nothing in our terminology.
    • There is not enough practical application. Again, guilty as charged. We are assembling our knowledge in this regard. In the meantime, start comparing you current managing practices to the laws of managing and see what that reveals to you.

We are constantly on the lookout for how people receive our message. And we are constantly looking to improve the deliver of that message. Please feel free to let us know what you think.
