Definition

A synthetic thinking orientation focuses the efforts to understand and design systems on the function of the system within its environment. The system is seen as interrelated to its environment in producing results in that environment. Understanding of the whole is sought based on understanding the interrelationships of the parts of the system and the behaviors produced by those interrelationships.
